🙏 Paryushan Mahaparva 🙏

The Sacred Festival of Self-Purification, Self-Discipline, Penance and Forgiveness

In Jainism, Paryushan Mahaparva is regarded as the most sacred and significant of all festivals. It is not merely a celebration or a religious programme, but a precious opportunity to come closer to our soul, reflect upon our life, and shed accumulated karmas.

The true meaning of “Paryushan” is to temporarily withdraw from the external world and turn inward towards our own soul. Throughout the year, we remain occupied with family, business, work and numerous worldly responsibilities. However, these sacred days of Paryushan remind us that the true purpose of life is not merely material happiness, but the welfare and purification of our soul, ultimately progressing towards the path of Moksha (liberation).

🌼 The Importance of Paryushan

During Paryushan, we make a special effort to bring the teachings of Bhagwan Mahavir Swami into our daily lives. Virtues such as Ahimsa (non-violence), Satya (truth), Achaurya (non-stealing), Brahmacharya (self-restraint), Aparigraha (non-attachment), forgiveness, humility, discipline and penance are not simply to be heard or discussed, but practised in our lives to the best of our ability.

These sacred days give us an opportunity to look within ourselves and ask:

🔹 Have I caused pain or harm to any living being?
🔹 Have my words hurt someone’s feelings?
🔹 Do I hold anger, ego, deceit or greed towards anyone?
🔹 Is there anyone from whom I still need to seek forgiveness?
🔹 What am I doing for the welfare and purification of my soul?

It is through such sincere self-reflection and introspection that we move towards the true spirit and practice of Paryushan.
